Hi I hear very good things about SMT6 but today I recieve a mail from a company which sells turbo kits for BMW : "You want our honest opinion on the SMT6, we can only say that we have ended selling the product entirely, and we can't honestly recommend it to anyone who is building a turbocar. This 525 BMW was almost impossible to tune because of the failed design of the SMT6. You shouldn't believe everything they are "praising"." What can you say ??? To try or not ? | |
| I have tuned my friends m20b25 TIC engine, and that was my first engine to tune, and it works well. it's not easy, takes many hours to get the lightloaded areas right.the problem is to get the engine go smooth over from 1 loadpoint to another because it has only 8 load points. | |

But did they mention anything that´s supposed to be better then smt6 with the same price? Guess not:) Everyone that i have heard of thats using smt6 seems to be happy about it!? Everyone have something to say about things like this... I will try the smt6 with confidence, based on several peoples saying... Sorry for my bad english, it´s been a while:) |

If you turboconvert a car you should always use the extra injector function of the SMT6. Otherwise the tuning could be tricky (you rely on the ECU's fuel maps which are not made for turbo). If you use the extra injector function you get a very good result with minimum effort. |

Yes there are problem with SMT6 but soon SMT7 is comnig with Wide band lambda and many many new features . I am waiting to see S38B38 turbo with SMT - then I will boost mine with 1 bar . I think that there may be problems with newer motronics and vanos but S38 do not have any sooo what will be the problem . Yes i may be hard to tune but which after market ECU ( piggy or stand alone ) is easy to tune in rolling road ???? May be only Autronic with Autotune that reads in closed loop wide bad lambda sensor and map but if you have a base map . Please tell me your opinoin - I am not good in maping soo any info will be good for me - what ECU to use for S38B38 1 bar turbo setup ???????????? |

In my setup (a m50b25 from a e34) I will use the extra injectors function and also the ignition retardation funktion at boost preasure above 0.5 bars or so. Both will be mapped by a mapsensor and a tempsensor. This is more or less what you want to accomplish when you turbocharge a previously uncharged one, and I cant see any problems with the SMT6 setup... |
