Fick ett mail ang denan M3: In the summer of 1997 I was driving with my Corrado from Bielefeld via Hannover and Hamburg to reach a ferry to Norway in the port of Kiel. Just north of Hannover, near a place called Fallingbostel, on the Autobahn 7 I was doing about 230-240 km/h on the speedometer as I was warned about an upcoming "Baustelle" ( a part of the autobahn were beeing renewed). In front of the work-area there normally are speed limits for about 2 km before the actual work area begins. I wanted to overtake a camper before the work-area and so I had pretty much the pedal to the metal into the slow-down-area before the work area. Later the cops told me they had a radar just behind the 60 km/h speed limit sign... However, I slowed down and drove the normal speed limit thru the work area, where I noticed a brombeer metallic BMW 3 was following me. From me rear mirror view I could make out 3 guys in the car and they were all following my moves. After the work-area they drove pretty close to my back and I thought they would want to make a race. In this situation I missed out on the following speed limit signs and so I guessed there was free speed again ( I have driven this Autobahn some times without the work-area and so I guessed the speed was free again.) Well, then I put the pedal to the floor again and my car, which also is relatively quick, was accelerating up to about 220 km/h again. The BMW didn't have any problems following me, which confused me a little, because I wasn't able to make out that it was an M3. After a while I let the BMW pass me and they had an LED police sign in the rear windshield saying " Polizei, bitte folgen" or " Police, please follow". OK we both pulled away from the autobahn at the next exit and had a little chat. At the stop I noticed that it was actually an M3 from the interior. Outside, there were none of the usual M3 styling. Inside, the car had video surveillance and I was able to... Inside the M3 had video surveillance equipment along with the usual Provida stuff. I was able to watch my driving on the 3-4" colour monitor mounted in a special BMW-made glove-compartment monitor-rack. At least it looked factory made... They then told me thay had a radar almost just behind the 60 speed limit sign and that they had measured me to a speed of 214 km/h with this radar. With their civilian police car they decided to follow me and since I drove the normal speed thru the work area they didn't think my driving was "too bad". ( A lot of accidents happen just in these work-areas and people normally don't respect the speed limits there.) I told them about my confusion about the speed limit after the work area and how I experienced them lying so close to me and they decided to let me get off with the smallest one of the two speedings. They showed me the video of my driving after the work-area and it showed me doing 176 km/h average on a max 100 km/h 6,8 km intervall. In the end I had to pay about 400 DM ( 200 Euro) on the spot and when I heard that I started laughing. The policemen wondered of course why, and I told them about a speeding in Norway one year before. At that time I was busted for doing 127 km/h in a 80 km/h area and I got 18 days of jail ( on 2 year prbition, so I didn't have to sit), 5 months without drivers licence and a ticket of 3000 Kr ( about 320 Dollars). When I told the policemen that, they also started laughing and we actually came very much along. They were the nicest policemen that ever pulled me over, that's for sure. I then started to ask a little about the car and they wouldn't tell me much other than it was a BMW M3 with a little more than the usual 321 HP. ( So I guess BMW Motorsport may have had a hand on the car as well.) I asked about the missing M3 spoilers and so on and they said the car was made to look like a normal 3-series so that it wouldn't stick out to much. ( In Germany almost anyone are able to spot an M3 from the rest of the 3-series just taking a brief look at it.) Well, I hope this was I nice story for your site. Since then, I haven't seen this M3 again, and here in Stuttgart were I live the police-cars are all Mercedes-Benz. Normally C-class, but I guess most of the civilian police-cars are E-class. I once saw one of the policemen on television, where he was driving an E-class busting speeders like me north of Hannover. You probably know the shows were journalists make tv-programs with police videos from crazy drivers, speeders an so on. ( I would guess the M3 is no longer in service. I figure the police sold it to a policeman, but that's speculation from me). Länk |

En sån M3:a som tyska civilarna körde, precis en sån vill jag ha. :) Ingen M3-front, inga M3-speglar. Helt enkelt jättediskret. |

Mosse: Jag bor typ i Sthlm, så jag vet vad ni "stackare" med M3:or får stå ut med. :( Det är det som är så bra med Alpinan. Vanliga speglar och en frontspoiler som pundarna inte vet vad det är för något. ;) PS. Kör du en löjligt välvårdad indivudal-bil med skinn "överallt" (På tex mittkonsollen)? |
