Jag har en orginal bmw cd växlare till min E36:a som bara dog under färden, det stod. CD ERROR i displayen på radion.
Vad är det för fel??
Provade skruva av den och tog av sladdarna. satte sedan tillbaka allt igen, då stod det. NO DISK.

CD CHANGER "NO DISC" ERROR

Hi there guys. First time on here, so sorry if I am speaking out of turn. But I have had a success with my CD changer and would like to share it with my fellow beemer owners. I have some info that may be of some help! If you, like me, have had the "no disc" error show up on your stock BMW system keep reading. I have just fixed this problem on my changer. This fix is only for a total "no disc" problem (where when you select the CD changer mode, it just comes up "no disc" and not when you select a specific disc i.e.:- 1-6).

What the problem on my changer turned out to be, was with the small motor that works the mechanism that pulls the disc tray out of the cartridge. It should pull all six discs out in turn when you insert the cartridge (lots of clicks and whirrs!). If you changer does not do this and only makes a small whirr six times, then this may be your problem. If you have an individual "no disc" error, then you problem may be a laser error, or disc error so this may not help, but keep reading just in case.

The small motor that pulls the discs out is probably stuck (meaning it can not drive the mechanism, and so no discs are reported in the cartridge). You will need to pull the cover off, and remove the insides from the bottom half of the case buy pushing out the rubber mountings (be careful not to stab them, they may have a damping liquid in, I am not sure) and unhook the mounting springs (they are the 2 you have to adjust depending on what angle the unit is mounted). When you turn the insides over you will see 3 motors. One moves the laser across the disc, one moves the player section up and down (to select discs 1-6) and the other one (the problem one) is the one that pulls the disc trays out of the cartridge) and this is the one that sticks. Check if this moves freely (only a small amount) if it does not, try using a small screw driver to just ease it round, this is the drive that the motor turns not the one on the motor as it is a worm drive and there is no way of rotating it. (Be very carefully as it is only plastic).

This is what I did on my unit and it worked fine. I have seen places that are supposed to be able to fix this problem, but at a cost, but if it is only a stuck motor, it aint worth paying $120+ (this was an American site, so would not be of any help to me anyway, being in England) for this (would probably be cheaper to pick up a good used unit).

Well let me know if this helps, this is my good deed for the day. you are free to email me if you need any info on this. I must stress that anything you do to your changer is at your own risk, and I will be in no way responsible. But I am a welder and not some electronics whizz kid, and I done this okay. It just requires patience, and a light hand.

Well thanks for reading, I hope this helps.

------------------

I was getting the same "no disk" message and this fixed it.

Just a few notes: Taking the cover off is not the easiest thing I've ever done. At several points I was convinced I was breaking it and this could not possibly be the way it was intended to be dismantled. Once the rubber mounting are removed as well as the mounting springs, and the unit is turned over, there are two motors on the right side of the unit and one at the bottom middle of the unit. The motor responsible for pulling the trays out of the cartridge is the motor on the right top. It is connected to a plastic worm drive which is, in turn, connected to a plastic gear. This is the gear you should try to jiggle loose. It barely moved at all for me (an 8th of a rotation or less), but apparently that's all the jiggling it needed. It's a good idea to plug it back in and test it before trying to reassemble the unit and cover. Putting the rubber mounting back took a little patience too.

Great advice bwmscud. Much better than paying $120. Thanks for taking the time to post and help out.

Thanks for the advice, this also happened to me. It took about 45 minutes to get the CD changer out of the back of my 740iL. Then I tried several things -- so I can online. Just manipulating the gears seemed to do the trick in about 30 seconds. I plugged in the CD, tested -- and it was as good as new.

Thanks!

Next is off-topic but related:

First try to reset the CD changer. When connected and no cartridge inserted, pressing the eject button performs a "Soft Reset". If this does not work, leave it disconnected overnight and try it again in the morning.
